Finnish Open Source Electric Car 2.0 Project Sähköautot.fi has received an order for 300 Electric Cars from Norwegian company Enviro Elbilsalg which will also provide funding for building the prototype. Prototype will be based on Toyota Corolla Platform. General idea is to take used car and rip off the gasoline engine and replace it with electric motor and lithium batteries. Estimated range with lithium batteries is planned to be in range of 150 kilometers. Estimated lifetime for lithium batteries is more than 200.000 kilometers. Build instructions will be made available as open source once the prototype will be finished. First cars should be in production before end of the 2008. You can read more from EV World article.
