VMware buying Yahoo’s open source email and collaboration company Zimbra

What is VMware thinking ? Zimbra is cloud based offering but still. I would think this would be better fit for Microsoft or even IBM. It seems that VMware has too much money to spend.
If VMware buys Zimbra there is one more big player offering cloud based email services.
