Blog moving to Wordpress

by Matti Timonen on Jan.05, 2010, under Blog

I’m just finalizing my new blog design. New version will be using Wordpress and
theme from Pixel theme. BlogSphere template has served well but since I’m not a
Domino Developer I decided to try out Wordpress. I have already noticed that
there is some issues with permalinks. I will have to create some process to
redirect old permalinks to new Wordpress links. Wordpress has different
redirect plugins but I have not been able to get them work properly in my hosted
installation of Wordpress. Unfortunately feed address will be changed too.

My new rss feed feed.

It is getting busy busy since there is just too
many things to get done before Lotusphere.

by Matti Timonen on Dec.16, 2009, under Blog

For those who are not familiar. TSM Fastback is incremental for ever block based backup / disaster recovery (DR) solution. It is very suitable for environments very you need fast recovery times (RTO). It is standalone product but normally it will be integrated with tape based backup products like TSM or Symantec products.

TSM Fastback V6.1 should available for download 18th December. Linux support for Suse and RedHat enterprise version has been adeed. Fastback backup repository will support data deduplication. However if you have existing Fastback repository you cannot upgrade that for V6.1 – you need to create need repository for deduplication support. There is also integrated management policies between TSM and TSM Fastback.

They also announcent TSM Fastback for workstations which is basically rebranded Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for files with enhanced centralized management.

Next-generation storage – IBM XIV Storage

by Matti Timonen on Oct.05, 2009, under Blog

Do you want to reduce complexity Data Center. IBM XIV storage sub-system can help you reduce complexity in our storage. Check this video from VMWorld 2009.

XIV promises high density and high performance storage and very low cost.
It uses SATA disks in order to achive lower cost and lower power consumption (and less cooling required) than FC SCSI drives. Performance is excellent due to parallelism and caching (even though individual disks are slower).

But what I like the most is the simplicity. No need to think how to optimize the storage system and how to distribute the data. Sounds too good to be true. I definately need to study more about this.
